Provider.

wow. I am writing this post with so much joy it's UNREAL!

so... at the beginning of last week, I still needed $1127 for my outreach fees to be able to leave this coming Saturday... all the fees were due last Thursday. I approached my leader in tears because I truly had NO idea where it was coming from. I had exhausted all my efforts and then I get online... express my frustrations to my best friend, Carly, and she and Tyler felt they should give and within 5 minutes... I had half of my outreach fees. In the next couple of days, I got all of my money sent in... some by people I didn't even know and some by close friends and family! Holy crap! I ended up with $1150... and I needed $1127. I hate asking people for money, so my pride really got in the way. but holy moly... did the Lord provide!

I saw Him provide $6000 over the weekend between me and some of my classmates. One of my friends found $200 on her bed, was given an additional $200, then $1200, and another $1000. all in the course of ONE DAY!!! And another one of my friends got his entire outreach paid for by one person... can you believe this? another girl has found $500 on her bed TWICE! Is our God not great??

the big kicker is this one... last night we had a time of giving because we still had a bunch of people who did not have their outreach fees paid for and we're leaving this Saturday. SO.... we needed $10,665. within 20 minutes, every single cent of that money was paid for and provided for by OTHER STUDENTS DONATIONS. We all gave what little we had and between 60 of us, we were able to pay for others to go on outreach. unbelievable.

also with the giving.... we did gifts as well. while we were camping, on Lordship week, I felt like I needed to give my most favorite piece of jewelry, my cameo necklace from my Nana, to another girl on the other DTS. It was really special to me and I did NOT want to give it up, but I couldn't shake it off that I had to. so I gave it away and I was super bummed about it. last night... one of my darling friends, Liz, gave me her cameo necklace! it was so precious. her older sister gave it to her and then she gave it to me and said, "from one sister to another..." so that just melted my heart! also, if you know me, you know I love to give and receive letters and cards. So, I love good pens. Sharpie pens are my absolute favorite. My friend, Sam, has these amazing pens that I always ask to borrow.... and she gave them to me last night! so stinkin' precious. now I can write even more fabulous and wonderful notes with my new pens! I also got a really sweet letter from my friend, Katie, last night. so I was just feeling INCREDIBLY blessed. I gave away some things too, and it was just awesome to watch people feel loved. SO SO SO GOOD. My heart was so full.

also today, I got my Valentine's package from my Covenant Group girls! Meg, Carly, Christina, and Jen (see their blogs on the right hand side of my page)! complete with button earrings made by my best friend, Carly Gail Ward, and some candy (smarties, my fave!!), and then notes from all of them. such a sweet gift! I get care packages all the time, I swear I have more candy and food than I know what to do with!!

I am a blessed little lady. I have the best friends in the world. the sweetest family. I'm having the time of my life in Australia. I am absolutely in love with my Jesus. I cannot wait to go on outreach, spend some time in Sydney, and then go back to my life at home!

thanks friends for all your love, encouragement, and support. couldn't do it without you.

2 weeks of camping in the outback!

Wow. I haven't written an in depth blog post in a LONG time. I started to work on my newsletter this week and my computer shut off and it didn't save any of the work :( so it's taken me awhile to get back to writing everything.

SO... 2.5 weeks ago, we left as a DTS to go camping at this place called Hidden Valley, about an hour and a half-2 hours away from the base. Me and my motion sickness hated the drive up there, but it was worth it once we arrived. Most of you know that I am NOT a camper. I've liked camping a lot the previous times I've gone, but there's always been fresh running water and a clean bathroom and such if we needed it.... So the first day, mine and Liz's 2 man tent BROKE. I'm talking.... poles split in 4 different places. So we were a little peeved... we are both city girls and SUPER girly girls. A few hours later, we received a new tent surprisingly from one of the staff, and the tent was HUGE! We could stand up in it... it was a 4 man tent for just the 2 of us! so we were overjoyed and like little kids at Christmas.

the first week of lectures was Lordship week. We had a guy named Mark Parker from New Zealand, and the first couple days I was thinking, "get me out of here." I just was NOT feeling up to anything that we were doing and was really closed off... but by the 3rd day, the Lord was still at work in my heart, and I was able to really get into what we were doing. the whole week was about giving EVERYTHING to Christ, letting Him be Lord of your life, surrendering everything, trusting in His provision... etc. We learned all about the old testament and the tabernacle and how people used to come to the tabernacle and bring burnt offerings and sin offerings, etc etc. so our ministry time was just INCREDIBLE. every week we have a ministry time where we really try to tangibly display the things that are going on in our hearts every week... Lordship week time was that we bring a burnt offering (could be anything really) and also a sin offering (things we needed to confess: unbelief, pride, etc. or things against others, ridding ourselves of shame, guilt, etc.) and then a commitment (if you wanted to) to follow and go wherever the Lord leads you, to let Him be the Lord of your life... all your decisions, all your thoughts, all your dreams and we do this in front of everyone in the DTS. the day that I knew I had to do this, I literally cried ALL day long because I knew the things I was going to have to release to the Lord...

I'm older, I have considered my options, I have counted the costs... and I knew I was going to have to give up my rights to a job, to money, to food, etc... if the Lord asked me to. that I was going to have to give up my desire to be married (not that He won't give me that, because He gave me the desire, but if He decided that I won't, then I would have to be okay with that), to have a family, to have financial stability, etc. Please don't misunderstand me, I am not saying that I can't have those things or that the Lord is going to take those things away from me, but I had to come to the point in my heart where I could say to myself, if none of these things happen for me, STILL I will praise the Lord, STILL I will see Him as a good God. He might ask me to move somewhere really far away from my family and friends, may ask me to do things I don't want to do and go places I don't want to go... but if I commit my life, I commit to doing those things, no matter the cost because He is worth it.

That day though, I wasn't thinking like that. I was literally thinking that the Lord was just going to take everything away from me that I wanted. I was mad that I had to go up there... But I went up there, gave my offerings, committed my life, and just wept. then, JoAnne, one of our leaders, pulled me aside and gave me the verse from Jeremiah 29:11... which I never read because it's been read SO many times by everyone and I often times overlook it. but there's SO much truth in what it says and so much peace that comes from it. I LOVE my version in one of my bible's, the ESV.

"For I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD, plans for WHOLENESS and not for evil, to give you a FUTURE and a HOPE. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to me and I will hear you. You will seek Me and you will find Me. When you seek Me with all of your heart, I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the LORD." Jer. 29:11-13 ESV

I love that it says, "plans for WHOLENESS." The Lord's plans for me include wholeness, never lacking in anything. I will never feel in need or in want when I am resting in the Lord's provision and in His faithfulness. the problem for me is just staying there once I get there and truly trusting in His goodness. there are some days I really struggle with Him being a good God. today is one of those days... but choosing to trust, love, and worship Him anyway... that warms His heart.

along with Lordship we also talked about fear of the Lord... which really coincides with Lordship, just having a healthy fear of the Lord. not worrying He's going to strike you down or whatever, but really just walking under His protection and doing what He asks you to do.

that 2nd week we had numerous staff speak for lectures. the first couple days were about hearing from the Lord... pretty good. not too much there. the last few were hearing our staff's stories and getting a background on them which was super encouraging. We had an entire day of "love," where we started the day off with one of our "good morning God" groups (these were student groups that lead some sort of creative worship in the morning, and we did love languages... so we all wrote on our arms what our primary and secondary love languages were and your challenge for the day was to love the other people with their love languages. it was cute and fun... and we all spent some time just encouraging and affirming one another, which always is good for the heart and soul. then Naomi, our school leader, talked about the Father's love, and just love in general...no, not romantic love :) and then that night, we had a "love feast," where we ate yummy food, all sat around together in the circle, and then had a mega dance party. it was so much fun...

we also had a talent show the last night of camping which was a RIOT. my flat performed a skit and it was hilarious. hopefully I'll have a video up of that eventually. everyone's was awesome.

speaking of videos: here's the link to my hip hop team performing at youth street a couple of weeks ago... the day before camping. the kids worked SO hard and it was AWESOME. I'm on the left in the yellow tank top if you're curious, haha.

Highlights of camping:
  • sitting by the campfire every single night talking. I got to know so many people so much better.
  • quiet times in the morning were actually quiet... such precious time with Jesus!
  • no distractions... no internet.
  • the community. it was such a small place and everyone was always together, LOVED it.
  • no frills, no makeup, no worrying about what you looked like.
  • talent show
  • going to the gorge and floating down the creeks
  • baptisms in the creek... getting to be a part of 2 of my friend's baptisms!
  • being humbled IMMENSELY.
BOO- the things I hated:
  • it rained EVERYDAY. my tent leaked into my bed and into my suitcase, so all my clothes were wet and stayed wet for days. I ended up borrowing clothes from Liz. sucked.
  • bugs. I hate bugs and I'm not still sure why they exist.

but, I can safely say, I am a small town girls who loves the big city who is now a camping girl. I just loved it. It was the best 2 weeks of my life. the bathroom and shower were crappy, but at the end of the first couple days, I barely noticed anymore... it was such a simple way to live and I absolutely just loved it. I can't wait to go camping again!

here are some fun pictures!

me and vaughn at the gorge! love it.

such a precious moment... my bunkmate, sam, got baptized and asked me to be in the water with her. i'll never forget it.

people that i love: jordan, chello, and liz.

for such a time as this...

so this week was all about having a clear conscience... about being convicted of wrong and RIGHT. which... i have never even considered the notion of being convicted of being right before. conviction seemed to be such a negative word with a negative connotation. so to think of it this way was actually really interesting. we had an amazing speaker, ken, who is the leader/director of our base with his wife, robyn. he was a phenomenal speaker and had us asking ourselves a lot of questions. initially in the week, i was a smidge irritated because i found myself doubting things that i knew the Lord has spoken clearly to me about... but i had to really look at it and understand that i could QUESTION it, i didn't have to doubt it, but also understand and love Godly conviction... and to be convicted that i was actually doing what the Lord told me to do. and that i am exactly where i need to be.

that's one of the things that i keep being reminded of... is that i am exactly where i'm supposed to be right now. some days are really hard, especially the weekends. i tend to miss my friends and family a lot, especially when we're trying to find something to do to occupy our weekend nights. but a couple people have spoken the word esther over me. most of you are probably familiar with the book of esther in the old testament. i won't go into the whole story, but my bible study did a beth moore study on esther almost a year ago. and it was incredible. the thing you need to know about esther is that she was a woman of influence and justice. she was a woman of greta power... inward confidence and beauty as well as the outside, yet she was humble. she was a leader. SO... one of our leaders spoke that over me last week and said that that was the word the Lord gave her for me.. that when she looked at me that's all she was reminded of. which is pretty powerful if you ask me! so this week, one of the October DTS girls came to me and said the Lord gave her the name "esther" for me. so you can imagine my shock! because she didn't know about the other time. so... what she told me was basically the same thing as the other lady and also mentioned that i was EXACTLY where i was supposed to be and in "and who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (esther 4:14) so it's basically been a reminder that i am EXACTLY where i am supposed to be. that this is where the Lord has me and while there are days that i really don't think my heart can handle anymore spiritually, emotionally, or physically, i know that there is something stirring in my heart. that the Lord is transforming me little by little. ridding me of those gaps and building the bridge between. breaking open old wounds, cleaning them out, and then restoring them and sealing them up for good. it is a struggle everyday to wake up and have to say, "ok God... today... I'm giving it all back. I give it all up." it's like, not the thing you want to pray. because it can be scary to give it all back and see how He runs with it. but all in all, He is a good God. that's a major thing i've been learning. the Lord is for me. He wants to give me good things, but He also wants to sharpen and refine me. so that is where we are now!

so also this week- we had cyclone yasi come through townsville. it was a category 5 cyclone and was apparently the biggest tropical storm that's ever hit here. and you know what friends, there were NO deaths. 1 in 3 houses were destroyed, but there were no deaths. so we are so grateful for protection and provision here! our base escaped unharmed with the exception of no power or a/c for a couple days :) but we were all safe, the buildings are all fine, we had a couple of trees on some houses and a couple power lines down, but most of it has been removed. it's been really cool to see the community coming together and getting the city cleaned up. i don't know about the other cities who were hit, but i can imagine they are all working together as well. all of our power and internet and air-con and water and food and things are all back to normal! yay! so thanks for your prayers, guys. i was in my flat with 17 other girls and no air flow! so i was a smidge cranky and sweaty... but we got through it.

let's see... OH YEA! i found out where i'm going on outreach! i'll be heading to charter towers for 3 weeks and then also to darwin and east timor for 6 weeks. east timor used to be a part of indonesia, but it was massacred a few years ago by indonesia and has since gotten it's independence. it's one of the poorest countries in the world. we'll be teaching some english, working with the orphanages, and traveling to the villages. we can only bring our hiking packs! ahhh! for 9 weeks! hahaha. i love the idea of it and i'm excited for the challenge. so i'll be heading to charter towers in i think around 6 weeks? we're there for 3 weeks and then we come back to the base for 2 weeks and then head out on the major outreaches. we have 4 teams... the first team is going to cairnes, australia for their minor and then doing an amazing backpacking trip to papua new guinea for 6 weeks... they're going to unreached remote villages. so so awesome. the 2nd group is going to mt. isa australia on their minor and then they're doing the papua new guinea medical ship and providing free healthcare to papua new guinea. amazing as well. and the other team is going all over australia for their minor and major outreaches. so as much as i hate the idea of our family being split up for 9 weeks, i am OVERJOYED for us all to have our different experiences and share stories when we get back.

well, this is as much an update as i have time for today, but i will try and update some time this week. i miss my family and friends here, but know that the people here are making me feel right at home w/ their love and encouragement all the time. but it just makes me appreciate the people i have at home so much more. thank you all for your constant encouragement, love, and support.

looooove you.

chosen and dearly loved

SO... The last few days have been a blast here in the Aus! this was our first official weekend altogether as a DTS, and we had NO idea what to do. unfortunately, it is the rainy season here and so a lot of our plans to do things tend to get rained out. Friday night after lectures, we planned to all go down to the strand (which is a 45 minute walk to the beach) but they have fun little shops and an amazing place called Juliette's that has wonderful gelato and outdoor seating. ALAS, the rain came in and so our plans subsided. we did however still have our ice cream craving, so we all ran, in the pouring rain, to the grocery store to buy our pints of ice cream. DELICIOUS and totally worth it. then we all came back here and played card games. Saturday we had YouthStreet. from 12:30-5 we hang out with the kids and are on different teams with different kids, or crew as we call them. I am on the hip-hop team, so I went and learned a hip hop choreographed dance routine and boy let me tell you... it kicked my butt! It was a blast and so much fun to hang out with the kids... especially in a dance studio with NO air con! we all eat dinner together at 5 and then the crew stay on base and hang out with some of the other staff and play games and do fun stuff. Those of us who were on the earlier part of the day, left after dinner to head down to the beach to finally get our Juliette's fix and some beach time at night. it was SO peaceful. I think we all needed it for a bit. then Sunday we have the entire day off... I started my day off talking to 2 of my besties, Carly and Hayley on skype! It was a glorious beginning to my day! Then we headed to the beach... for about 5 hours. and we were all burnt to a crisp! I wore 55spf sunscreen and I still look like a tomato! I hardly ever burn, but let me tell ya, I made up for it! So we all had a wonderful day, came back and just relaxed, ate dinner, and hung out in the cafe.

I love the community here, but sometimes it is nice to just be alone. We are doing a 24/7 prayer thing here... where we are literally praying for 24/7 nonstop for 2 weeks. I just finished my hour of praying in the prayer room. It was pretty new for me to do something like that... I've never prayed for an hour straight a day in my life. especially not for intercession. so it was really interesting and really neat to see how God can use me in those types of situations when I'm most uncomfortable. Actually, a lot of what we do makes me uncomfortable... because it's so out of my element. But it's so wonderful to be stretched and grown and broken and then restored back together. That's what He's doing here. in me, in my DTS, in our staff, in our state, in our nation...

this week is "identity" week... and the name in itself made me uncomfortable because I am one of those people who has never been sure of who she is. I think there were times I was close, but never have I really understood that the Lord loves ME. He loves me for who I am and who I'll never be. I am a child of the living God. If God is royalty, and I am a co-heir with Him, does it not make sense that we are royalty too? That we are manifestations of God Himself? That we are created in likeness with Him? We are not meant to compare ourselves to the world and to others... we are not of the world and there's a reason that we're individuals and not like everyone else. today when we were in lectures, our teacher, JoAnn, showed us this video called, "The Butterfly Circus." PLEASE YOUTUBE IT. (it's in 2 parts). I'm begging you. and afterwards we went through this activity which I will not post on here, kind of personal, but afterwards, the Lord gave me a song, or a letter, however you want to think about it... just about how He sees me. I can assure you, this was not from my own heart or head because I do NOT see myself this way... but the Lord wants me to. What an incredible feeling to know that you're loved by the Creator. just as you are... no frills or fancies about it. just you.

I also have felt a strong sense of urgency for the youth lately. I've been praying hard into that and just desiring to see hearts change and wants and desires be directed towards advancing the Kingdom of God. for the youth (myself and my generation included) to get over themselves and set their goals, dreams, and expectations down to fully experience what God wants to do with them and through them. we've been talking about that A LOT lately. it is something I am REALLY struggling with... as a planner and as someone who loves to have routine and schedules in their live, and who dreams and plans way far out in advance... this is difficult. but also getting to rejoice in the fact that God longs to dream with me and walk alongside me as I pursue new opportunities in my life. I'm learning that He is a kind God who DOES want to give me the things I desire.

anyhoo- this is sure to be a hard, wrecking week... tomorrow we find out our outreach locations and are given the opportunity to pray about where we should go. so I will keep everyone posted on that. I'll be posting some pictures tonight, but I have to go eat dinner now.

I really miss home. I'm so grateful that I have such awesome community to come home to. Thank you to everyone who reads my blog, reads my emails, and deals with me and supports/encourages me on a daily basis. I am so so so fortunate to have you guys. I am loving you so hard from the other side of the world!

much love,
mal

you've ravished my heart...

Cory Asbury from the International House of Prayer (IHOP- in Kansas City) this is live from one of their sessions. It will BLOW your mind. I am sitting in the cafe at my YWAM base just bawling my eyes out at the lovingkindness of God. we are studying God's character this week and I'm having such a difficult time grasping it all... we're learning to overcome ourselves and truly see God for who He is and see ourselves the way our precious Father does. I think this about sums it up. thank You, Jesus. so crazy to think the Creator of the world is so in love with us... He is taken with us. He has chosen us, so small and so insignificant. some people probably think that's cheesy... but it's so true. It's so mindblowing. I can't even wrap my head around it.

“Do you know how you've caught my eye in the secret place where you chose to die?

Do you know the way you move me? I see every time you laid down those other things for me, I see every time you seek my face beloved one. I see every movement of your heart towards me, I do. I see every little movement of your heart towards me. Though you're weak my beloved, I see your love, I see your love. And though it's small my beloved, I see your heart, I see your love. And though it ain't much my beloved one, I see the way that you want me, that you need Me, that you've gotta have Me, I see it. I see every little desire, every little passion, every little piece of hunger, every little thing, I see it all. Nothing goes unseen from My eye, nothing goes unseen from My gaze. Every time you look towards Me, I see it, EVERY TIME you stare at Me I see it, I see your love, how small it may be I see it all my beloved one. Every time you look My way I see it, every time you stare at me I see it. Though it feels a little weak sometimes, though it feels a little broken sometimes, I see every second, every little glance, every little glance my way, I see it, I see it, I love it, I love it, I love you just the way you are, I love you, I love you, listen my beloved one. Every little glance towards me, I see it. Every little time you look at me I see it. Every movement of your heart, every movement of your heart, I see it.

Do you know the way you move Me? Do you know the way you move Me? Do you know? Do you know the way you undo My heart My beloved? I love every sacrifice you've made, every time you say no one cares, I see it. Do you know the way you move Me?

You're beautiful just the way you are. You're beautiful My love, My dove, My favorite one, My joy, I love you right where you are, I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you. I'll never stop, I'll never stop! I'm so in love with you, my bride, I'm so in love with you my favorite one. With every single little glance, with every movement of your will, with every decision that you've made, I'm undone. I love you with an everlasting love, I love you with an everlasting love. I'm not disappointed in you, I'm not angry with you. I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you. So don't hide your face from me, I'll break off shame, I'll break off condemnation, it's gone, it's gone, it's gone, it's gone, you're free. You've ravished me, I'm undone, I'm not disappointed, I'm not angry, I'm in LOVE with you! You've ravished me, I'm in love with you.

Do you know how you've caught my eye in the secret place where you chose to die? Where you chose to lay it all down, where you chose to follow me, where you chose to take up that cross day after day after day after day. You've ravished my heart, you have. Just one glance of your eye, just one. My heart it's undone every time you look at me. Everyday that you don't give up, that you don't let go, that you don't look down, my heart it's undone, my heart it's ravished.

Do you know the way you move Me? Do you know the way you move Me?

I saw when you gave it all up. I did. I saw it when you gave it all up. You passed up opportunity after opportunity just to seek me, just to find me, just to love me a little longer, I saw it. And it moved my heart. Don't think those little sacrifices go unnoticed. Don't think those little times go unnoticed, when you think I'm not looking at you. I saw it, I saw when you gave up everything to follow me, I did. I did and I'm pleased, and I'm proud, and I'm not mostly disappointed, and I'm not mostly mad, and I'm not mostly sad, and I'm happy with you and I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you. My beloved one.

Do you know the way you move Me? Do you know the way you move Me?

I saw it when you left your friends behind, and I saw it when you left your family behind, and I saw it when you gave up everything just to follow me, just so you could love me a little bit more. I saw it when you left your friends behind, and I saw it when you left your family behind, and I saw it when you gave up everything, when you let go of everything just to find me, I saw it. I'm pleased and I'm proud. I love you, thank you! It really means something to Me that you did it all. It really means something to me that you gave it all up, that you gave it all up, and it's not for nothing, I'll meet you there in the longing. It's not for nothing, it's not for nothing, it's not for nothing. I saw it, I saw it.

Do you know the way you move Me? Do you know the way you move Me?

I saw it when you took the narrow road, I saw it when you took the road less traveled, I saw it when you took that narrow road, it's a little bit lonely sometimes, I saw it. I saw it when you left your friends behind and took that narrow road of love. I saw it. I saw it. I saw it. I love you, and I love you. I love you. I see your HEART, and I SEE YOUR HEART! That you want Me, I see it.I see it. I see it.”
